How to Tune Your Car for Spring

Signs Your Car Needs a Tune-Up

The idea of a spring tune-up is to take care of some basic maintenance jobs that might be necessary after a few rough months on the road. Your car’s maintenance schedule is your best guide for signs your car needs a tune-up. 

1. Visit a Car Wash

The easiest way to start your spring tune-up is by spring cleaning your car. With the threat of ice and freezing rain being out of the forecast, it’s time to get rid of the last of the road salt that might be lingering, silently damaging your paint. Choose your favorite Macon or Byron car wash and splurge on the premium wash so nothing is missed. If you’re looking for a sunny afternoon activity, you can handwash your car at home in Robins Air Force Base. Since our winters are fairly mild you probably don’t have to worry about much salt build-up, but if you have any, adding baking soda to your wash water will help break it down. 

2. Check Your Tires

While you should be getting your tires rotated every 5,000-7,000 miles per your car’s maintenance schedule, once the weather begins to warm you should perform a thorough tire check no matter how recently your tires were serviced. After you’ve verified that your treads are in good shape and your tires are wearing evenly, turn your focus to making sure the air pressure in your tires is correct. Cold temperatures can make the air pressure in your tires drop. If you topped off the air in the winter, you might need to let some of it out. Use a tire gauge and your owner’s manual to make sure your tire pressure is correct.

3. Replace Wiper Blades and Fluids

4. Check Your Battery

5. Change Your Oil

Since most cars require oil changes two-three times a year, it’s a great idea to include an oil change in your spring tune-up. Temperature changes can impact the viscosity of your engine’s oil, and road salt can lead to oil debris. So start fresh with clean oil!
