How Does the Cadillac Hands-Free Driving System Work?

While hands-free driving is still in its infancy in the Robins Air Force Base area, soon the technology will be in place to allow hands-free driving nearly 95 percent of the time. How does hands-free driving work? Only select stretches of highways and interstates are possible for Cadillac hands-free driving. Before you start your trip, you can use your Cadillac to create a detailed map of LiDAR roads that are capable of using hands-free driving technology. GPS information, combined with data your Cadillac gathers through its cameras and sensors will predict the flow, monitor traffic, and get you where you want to be safely. 

How to Activate Cadillac Super Cruise™

Once you’ve purchased a vehicle equipped with Cadillac Super Cruise™ and activated your OnStar Connected Services account, you’re ready to give hands-free driving a go! Here’s how: 

1. Activate Adaptive Cruise Control: Press the button on your steering wheel and set your speed. You’ll see the indicator change from white to green. 
2. Drive on a road approved for Super Cruise™ driving: The Super Cruise™ indicator will appear in white on your dashboard if the situation includes visible lane markings, available GPS data, an attentive driver, and a lack of system faults with your Cadillac. 
3. After the Super Cruise™ indicator light appears in white: Press the Super Cruise™ steering wheel button. Do not remove your hands from the steering wheel until the light bar, which should appear on your dashboard immediately, turns green. The system will control your speed, create adequate distance between your vehicle and others, and keep you centered in your lane.

When you need to change lanes, activate your turn signal and the system will find the time and place to automatically change lanes for you. 

Ready to return to normal driving? Just press the Cadillac Super Cruise™ button and apply the brake. 

When Not To Use Cadillac Super Cruise™

Conditions have to be just right to use Cadillac hands-free driving. That’s how we keep you safe because not all driving situations are made for hands-free driving. Here’s when you need to stick to your old driving habits:  

• When you’re not separated from oncoming traffic
• Whenever driving conditions are uncertain or difficult
• Whenever lane markings are difficult to see or conditions are obscuring your visibility
• Whenever you enter a construction zone or a tunnel
• When road conditions and inclement weather are working against your
• When entering and exiting the freeway

Towing isn’t recommended when using Cadillac Super Cruise™, although that technology is on its way.
